The School offers a range of postgraduate, and doctoral programs designed to produce highly skilled professionals and researchers. Our programs are structured to provide a solid foundation in theoretical principles, complemented by practical exposure and research opportunities. The curriculum consists of interdisciplinary courses, emphasizes seminars, projects, and internships to prepare students to take up challenges in academia, industry, and research.
Computational Geosciences & Geophysical Laboratory
Geodetic grade continuously operaing GPS reference station, and a few broadband seismometers are installed at various locations to record precise plate motion direction, and earthquakes. This data enables us to identify neo-tectonic activity in the region, and to determine subsurface shear-wave speed structure. Seismic data is also being used for seismic-hazard studies. Electrical resistivity experiments are being conducted to identify groundwater bearing formations, saline water intrusions etc.
Instrumentation and Observation Laboratory
A flux tower for Atmospheric Observations has been installed at our main campus for the continuous monitoring. Sever oceanographic equipment like multi-parameter profiler, conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) profiler, tide-wave recorder etc are regularly used to survey the coastal, lake and river dynamics.
Petrology & Geochemistry Laboratory
The Petrology Laboratory is equipped with Trinocular Polarising Microscope with CCD Camera & Analysis Software, Binocular Polarizing Microscope, Trinocular Stereozoom Microscope, Rock Cutting and Polishing Unit etc. The Geochemical Laboratory has Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyzer, High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) System, Auto Titrator, Portable Multi-parameter System, Flame Photometer and De-ionized Water System.
Modelling and Visualization Laboratory
This laboratory is equipped with ten high end workstations for carrying out high resolution simulations in Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate processes such as Tropical cyclone, Monsoon, Boundary Currents, Ocean Circulations, Coastal Dynamics, Barrier Layer. Further, it is extensively used for carrying out data analysis and visualization using software viz. GrADs, MATLAB, FORTRAN.
